So, I got a very very amazing feedback on my last post (Thank y’all so much).
Here I am again with another amazing post for y’all. I am here with my very own genres of books that keep me excited.
These genres make me so excited I cannot sit still or cannot wait to finish them or in some other cases, do not want to see the end of the book. They literally get my heart racing and wishing I were in them.

Without further ado, here they are, from the bottom to the top;
5. Historical fiction
I read probably 2 or 3 books from this genre and I really liked them at that point in my life but not anymore.
I think my roommate tries once in a while to get me to read some other books that are not in my select genre but what can I say, I’m still a not a sucker for these kinda books.
One very interesting historical fiction is “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by Heather Morris. It tells the story of a prisoner who falls in love at first sight with a woman, Gita. He tattoos on her arm (I do not really remember where exactly). I do not even remember the entire story. But, I heard it was infact a real life story y’all!!!!
Other books in this genre could be Jane Austen's books. Pride and Prejudice is an example.
(This genre is my least favorite, I’m sorry it’s quite short and all).
4. Adventure
This genre was what kept me going for like most of my high school years. I remember reading one and then another and then another. But now, I don’t really do much of this anymore.
For me, the rush and excitement gotten from this genre is next to none.
Dan Brown’s Da Vinci’s Code is an example of a book in this genre. I downloaded this book in my sophomore year in college, started reading it but became occupied and couldn’t finish it till date. I think I need motivation to finish this book, don’t know where that’ll come from though. But if I do get to read it, I’ll update y’all, because, the reviews I’ve read about this book is everything!!!
Oh!!!! There’s Treasure Island also, that children’s book we all read and even saw the cartoon too. Now, that I can relate to (Sorry, I’m still a child at heart). If I can remember correctly, it tells the story of a young boy basically wanting to sojourn and adventure as far as he could go. I think even to Treasure Island where there are a whole lot of treasures.
Percy Jackson’s series (Rick Riordan) is also a good adventure book if you’re interested in Greek mythology and all that. I saw almost all the movies in that series though but never read any of the books (wink wink).
3. Thriller
(Rubs palms excitedly). This is also a genre I sadly do not indulge in as much as I did in high school. Thrillers were my go-to genre back then.
First off, I love, love, love Sidney Sheldon’s books (anyone with me?). All he wrote about were basically either thrillers, mysteries or romantic thrillers. Bottom-line, he was a sucker for thrillers.
“Are you afraid of the Dark?” was an epic thriller. It was a gift from my teacher in high school. I’m pretty sure the book is somewhere in the house if I look properly.
Basically, the story follows 2 women whose husbands mystically disappeared out of the blue for no reason. They were both told by their husbands that they were going to expose something (I do not really remember what; but I think it was about their companies). So, they both join forces to bring down the companies and let me just say, plot-brilliant, characters (oh my God) - exquisite and do not get me started on how everything fell into place at the end.
I really didn’t want that book to end.
All good things, they say, must come to an end, and so did the book. So, you could check it out though. In fact, do check it out!!
2. Paranormal
I live for this genre!!
I love me some good ole vampire and werewolves.
I’ve been a sucker for vampires since Twilight- Stephanie Meyers (I was obsessed with it the time it came out). Literally read all the books in the series and saw all the movies too.
But then, The Vampire diaries came and oh my Soul- I read like most of the books but saw all the movies in the series too! But then, I grew or at least I thought I did. I thought I was over it until Watt pad came and I read one and before I knew it, 15 and then my whole library was filled with vampire and werewolf books.
I literally lived for this genre.
For the werewolf, it was basically how the authors wrote about their lifestyle and the mating and all of that. I and my friend could sit and talk about it for days. But not anymore though. We talk about it like once in a blue moon
. Book recommendations? I don’t got any apart from these (I’m sorry).
I’ve read so many books in this genre that I cannot even remember some titles.
1. Romance
Before you say anything, I’m a hopeless romantic. I love me some good good loving. Ranging from the sappy romances to blood-wrenching romances.
A very good book in this genre is Jojo Moyes’ Me before You. This is a very good classic. Everybody could agree with me on this or not. I saw the movie and I didn’t cry but I loved the plot and the characters. It was sad but not really tear-jerking. I remember watching how he (the main character) died and couldn’t stop hating the writer or the producer of the movie. Because, why on earth would you kill such a fine specimen? But, I got over it and I’m moving on y’all (Lol).
The blood-wrenching part of romance books totally gets me. Yeah, I’m talking mafia and the Russian bratva and all that mob shit. I love me a very possessive man who knows what he wants and does everything in his power and beyond to get it. And when he does get it, oh my, it’s ecstasy.
I recently read a mafia romance book, The Italian by TL Swan. I cannot even stress how soft the mafia-“rism” (If that’s a word) of the book is. It gave me butterflies though. You could check it out.
If you just want to begin your journey into the mafia world, you could start with that or The Kiss Thief by LJ Shen. Those are really minor mafia books.
And if you decide you want more, contact me. I’ll always be here.
Romance is basically bound to last for a very long time.
I’ve honestly tried to read other genres, but it’s not just working out for me. Believe me, I’ve tried horror, sci-fi, crime and documentary and it just isn’t playing out the way I want it to.
So, these are my go-to genres.
If you have other genres for me to try out, I will try.
For y’all, I will try.
Until next time, Peace and love. xxx
