By now, it is a sensation that almost all the books we've read are being made into movies. It's very exciting finding out that that very interesting book you read like 3 or 4 years ago is becoming a movie.
In this post, I'll be naming just a few favorite books I've read that became a movie or will become a movie.
1. To All The Boys Trilogy- Jenny Han
I remember reading this book when I was in high school. I remember the excitement I felt when I found out it was becoming a movie. I couldn't shut up about it.
So, it is a trilogy, the first being TATBILB, next being To All The Boys I've Loved; PS I still Love You and the last being Always and Forever, Lara Jean.
The story starts out with a teenage girl and her sisters- "The Song Girls"( Lara Jean, Kitty and Margot). Lara Jean is an hopeless romantic and believes in fairytale and Prince Charming coming to sweep her off her feet.
Growing up, she keeps a secret stash of letters she wrote to all her crushes- dated and addressed.
She keeps this stash in a safe place (or so she thinks).
One thing leads to another and her Sister (Kitty) sends all her letters out.
The first part, released in 2018, follows how a recipient of a letter (Peter Kavinsky) reaches out and their love-story begins.
The second part, released earlier this year ,follows the relationship between Peter Kavinsky and Lara Jean and the troubles they face.
The third part (not yet released, but probably already filming) follows the journey to college, Lara Jean's father's new relationship with their neighbor and the troubles and heartaches LJ and PK face also.
So far, I think my favorite is the 3rd book.
So far, only 2 movies have been released and we're hoping for the 3rd soon enough.
What are your thoughts on this?
2. The Kissing Booth-Beth Reekles
I never really read the book until I heard a second part was coming out this year. And let me say, the book was so much better than the movie. I loved how the storyline went so well and the characters were brought to life so elegantly.
So, this is a duology (2 books in a series).
The Kissing booth tells the story of a teenage girl- Elle Evans and her best friend-Lee Flynn. They've been "besties" since diapers. They grow up, have a set of rules concerning their friendship, one of them being; "Relatives are off-limits".
Everything goes well until Elle falls in love with Lee's brother- Noah Flynn.
They eventually get in a relationship and become secretive about it until Lee finds out and they do not speak for a long time. Eventually, everything works out and they become one big happy family (Blah blah blah).
The Second book shows the couple trying long-distance with Noah being in Harvard and Elle in high school back home. There's trouble in paradise when one of Noah's friends (Chloe) become a threat to Elle.
In the book, Elle breaks up with Noah and kisses Marco (a new guy at school). But, in the movie, they do not break up but she still kisses Marco. This gets Noah pissed and he leaves them.
Oh!!! Lee got into a relationship in the first part too and follow their story in the movie as well.
Netflix might probably give us a 3rd part though (wink wink).
3. The Matchmaker's Playbook- Racheal Van Dyken
This book was also read after the first part was released in 2018 and since then, I've being waiting on the 2nd book.
It follows the story of Ian; a certified playboy and Blake; a good girl per se.
He, along with his best friend, Lex, basically helps girls land their dream guys.
She comes for help to land her dream guy and they end up falling in love with each other (Cliché, right).
The second book tells the story of Lex and Blake's roommate, Gabs.
Now, what fun would it be if I told you the entire story. Find out in the Matchmaker's Replacement.
4. Gabriel's Inferno- Sylvain Reynolds
This is also a trilogy.
I'm still on the 1st book, so, I really cannot say much on the other 2 books.
Released in 2020, Gabriel's Inferno follows the story of 2 lovers- Gabriel Emerson and Julia Mitchell.
Gabriel is a professor on Dante and Julia a student of his.
The movie begins with a class going on and Julia isn't paying attention and one thing led to another, she was called to his office.
He doesn't remember that they were lovers until the very end of the movie and that my friends, is why I was initially pissed at the author. But as I keep going into the 2nd book, my oh my, it does get interesting.
Imma just leave it as it is.
And Oh, the second part of Gabriel's Inferno is coming out on the 31st of July.
Just thought you should know.
So, those are my favorite books that became movies. What are yours?
Share them with me.
